Honda Civic Si 2010 Review

The Honda Civic Si is nothing new to the GRM staff, as we acquired our first one back in 1986—at the time the model had just been released, replacing the carbureted 1500S.

The Civic Si has always been the sportiest Civic available here in States, receiving more power, better seats, stiffer suspension and bigger brakes.

The Civic Si recently gained a four-door variant—something totally new for the model line—and we recently spent some time with a navigation packaged-equipped Si while out in California.

As a big time fan of the Honda Civic Si since owning the first generation car way back in 1986, I was anxious to get my hands on the newest version. I guess you still can teach an old dog new tricks, as I quickly fell in love with the Civic Si. The power, handling and agility and just plain practicality of the new Civic Si make it an easy choice for someone living with the reality of a budget and a family. if you live where the roads are rough, you might want to live with the Civic Si for a day or two, before you sign up for a multi-year commitment.

Long popular with the tuner market, the Honda Civic Si sedan is now in its sixth generation as a factory-build, high-RPM compact hot rod. Seen by many as the basis for further performance, the Civic Si still offers a fairly hefty upgrade over the standard Civic sedan.

First introduced in 2007 -- a year after the Civic platform was redesigned -- the Civic Si received a handful of minor updates for 2009, including revised wheels, headlamps, grilles and fog lamps. Otherwise, it follows the same space-age dashboard style that characterizes the rest of the Civic lineup. That peak horsepower is achieved at a high 7,800 rpm, meaning drivers can expect to rev the Civic Si heavily to get the most out of its powertrain. No automatic transmission is available on the Civic Si.

There are no factory options for the Civic Si; rather, the Japanese automaker offers the Civic in several packages that include high-performance summer tires (in place of all-season treads), a navigation system with Bluetooth capability, or a combination of the two.
