All Civics have fine straightline stability even in crosswinds, and effective control of the attitude with good pedal modulation.
Cars have decent headroom adults. Sedan doors open wide for a good entry and exit.
Dynamically, Civic matches the class-leading Volkswagen Jetta and Mazda 3. Civic is more comfortable than most competitors, although only in as much as does need to be. The Civic posted last year's 5-star crash test ratings from NHTSA for driver and front passenger frontal crash. For those who seek an uncompromising, near-sports car-like experience, the Mugen Civic Si sedan keeps the drive system of the Si, but has a variety of databases and external tweaks.
Although all Civics offer excellent fuel economy, some buyers might want to stretch the budget for their fuel even more. For those who must have a Toyota Prius-like fuel economy, Honda offers a hybrid Civic, which couples a small 93-hp, 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 20-hp electric motor to increase fuel economy over 40 mpg. Honda also offers the Civic GX, powered by natural gas combustion, 113-hp version of the "normal» Civic the 1.8-liter four-cylinder.
For 2008, Civic offers eight different trim levels (DX, LX, EX, EX-L, Si, Si Mugen, GX, and hybrid). Si Mugen, GX, and hybrid versions are available only as a four-door sedans Civic.
At the bottom of the hierarchy is the Civic coupe DX (15,445 dollars) and sedan (15.645 dollars). The CNG Civic GX sedan ($ 25.225), comes with basic equipment EX trim level, adding a 113-hp, 1.8-liter four-cylinder CNG engine, two speakers instead of four, two-speed intermittent wipers, and an external temperature display.
Optional equipment
Coupe and sedan versions of the Civic DX and LX offer only one option, a five-speed automatic ($ 800). Moving up to the Civic EX and Civic EX-L with the following options extra cost: a five-speed automatic transmission ($ 800) and a DVD-based touch-screen navigation system ($ 1,750). The sports coupe and sedan Si performance tires offer summer ($ 200) and a DVD-based touch-screen navigation system ($ 1,750). The Civic Hybrid offers a DVD-based touch screen navigation system ($ 1,750). The Civic GX, and Mugen Si sedan does not have an option.
Dual front airbags, side-impact curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, active head restraints, seat, front seat belt pretensioners, and tire pressure monitoring is standard across the range of people. Stability control is standard on the coupe and sedan Si and Si Mugen sedan, but unfortunately not available for the rest of the lineup Civic.
