According to Honda, The GX has everything expected from a Civic, as the highest rated safety, proven performance and Honda durability. But is the GX, which means; s powered by natural gas and has been named the cleanest internal combustion vehicles on Earth by the NRA.
At first glance, the Honda Civic GX looks almost too good to be true. The Civic GX is the only factory NGV (Natural Gas Vehicles) available to the general public, and is one of the cleanest-running cars you can buy.
The 2009 Honda Civic GX is priced at $ 25.860. Buyers are eligible for $ 4,000 Federal tax credit, and some of them offer further incentives. We tested for the first time Civic GX back in 2001, after a week I came away wondering why not all cars run on natural gas.
Fast-forward eight years: I have just spent another week with a Civic GX, and my enthusiasm has not waned a bit. The Civic GX is clean, safe, and the driver's side is almost completely transparent, if I hand you the keys to a Civic GX and sent you out for a spin, then you should probably have no idea you were driving anything other than an ordinary gasoline-powered Civic.
When I told friends and family that I was driving a Civic GX, most of them asked about security.
Look and feel
The Honda Civic is one of the best compact sedans on the market. The GX is equipped similarly to the middle Civic LX: Power windows, mirrors and locks, remote keyless entry, cloth seats, CD player, air conditioning, 5-speed automatic transmission, brakes, wheels and a full range of airbags.
The engine of GX is basically the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder found in other Civics, but the production of electricity is lower: 113 horsepower and 109 lb-ft of torque, compared with 140 hp and 128 lb-ft for petrol -powered Civics.
Handling is nimble and responsive, taking into account the severe earth-saving mission for which it was designed, the Civic GX is surprisingly fun with a zipper on the curves. Most gas stations are both 3.000 and 3.600 psi pumps.
The Civic is a car is 3.600 psi, so you can use either one, but will not get a full tank of fuel from 3.000 psi pump. EPA fuel economy estimates are 24 miles per GGE in the city and 36 MPGGE the highway, almost identical to a gasoline-powered Civic Automatic
When It Is all said and done
By far, the best feature Civic GX, is the fact that they rely on gasoline, it burns gas, which, although still non-synthetic solution is available in abundant quantities from domestic sources.
For now, at least, EPA score the Civic GX air pollution from 9.5 (at 10) is the same as the Honda Civic Hybrid and Toyota Prius, although the Civic GX has a higher carbon footprint. And the Civic has the mechanical complexity of a hybrid - or, for that matter, a regular gasoline-powered Civic.
Calculating the environmental and financial implications of the Civic GX is difficult, because the price of gas varies from region to region. And the car itself is expensive, at $ 25.860 is $ 1,540 more than a Civic hybrid and almost $ 7k more than a gasoline Civic LX, while the GX is eligible for $ 4,000 Federal tax credit.
Some states and municipalities offer additional incentives, so it's best to do your homework before deciding whether a Civic GX is a cost effective solution.
Cost aside, I like the Civic GX. With the Civic GX, which you can really do about it, the safety of CNG and the practicality and reliability of a Honda Civic. The Civic GX is really good - and this is true.
