The Civic and Civic GX 2009 Review

The Honda Civic is the car I most often recommend to people who want simple, economical and reliable transportation.

Save for a lower character line of the body, slightly higher for the coupe from the sedan, the sides of the new Civic is more than sensual fun. Understated fender blisters, more pronounced on the coupe, break up the otherwise featureless area.

The coupe grille appears more open, with the Honda logo suspended on a matte-black frame. The coupe headlights are more sharply outlined. Great shifter and clutch action. Lounge window size windscreen is not for everyone

The platform is under new for 2006, substantially strengthened in rigidity, stiffness and ability to absorb impact, with minor adjustments to account for differences in size of the coupe and sedan body styles. As part of its campaign to reinvigorate civic action in the sport compact market, Honda has incorporated reinforced attachment points and gussets to allow suspension and some other modifications without diminishing body integrity.

From the front, styling differences are subtle, but marked. A polished, horizontal bar grille dominates the sedan. A single, broad air intake fills the lower part of the dashboard.

The front ends, but especially the coupes', push the leading corners down and outward, emphasizing the 2006 wider track (the distance side to side tire), which increased by more than one inch in front and more than two inches back in 2005's
